I had a whole post typed up on this, but then my post got destroyed by either Picasa, Google, Blogger, or all 3.

Why not? Supply and demand, and all that. I don't know why retailers haven't been jacking up the price to $1000/unit from day 1, since people are clearly willing to pay it.
That's still not as bad as CompUSA requiring people to buy 42"+ plasmas just to get on the PS3 pre-order list.
